research - class exercise

Research class exercise

1. Name something you have research in the past for art, media or design

Two weeks ago, I did a research about the American artist Abigail Goldman regarding to my diorama project.

2. Explain how you researched this.

First I heard Abigail Goldman name during the 2D and 3D classes, and I remembered her by her outstanding dioramas. I started the research by typing her name into a Google, hoping that she will have her own website. Luckily there was her website and also very interesting documentary movie on the You Tube channel.

3.What facts did you discover?

During my research I discovered how interesting person she is and how her life influence on her art. Her dioramas are very dark and basically she is creating little murder scenes. To do not "judge book by it's cover" is a perfect sentence what we can say about the artists work. Abigail Goldman is really lovely person, interesting in death and all the aspects of murder. Goldman creating her dioramas inspired by her job and what she is facing in daily basics.

4. What new conclusions did you establish?

In conclusion, I can say that is important to do what w love and what we enjoy in life. Worrying about others opinion might stop us and our creativity. Abigail Goldman started making her deadly dioramas long time ago and she did not even thing about being famous or selling them for the huge prices. That was her husband, who posted her work on the local social media. Everyone loves her dioramas and dark sence of humor. However, Abigail never stoped working as an investigator at the Welcome Country Public Defender.

Regarding to her life I will carry on drawing and making illustrations, because that is something what makes me happy. I will stop worrying about people saying that I should find "normal job"

Research into my major project

My project is about children's book illustration. I will research into children books, artists and their book illustrators. These will be Will Terry and Daniel Wlodarski. I will also look at the types of illustrations for children and what are the main criteria to draw a good picture.

I will  consider what should I avoid illustrating the book for children, or which age group is book for?

Before I will start drawing, I will decide how many pages do my book will have and what would page layout look like. I will decide is my picture will be on full page, spread page illustration or maybe the half page illustration.

Research trough my major project

I will ask my friend's daughter to write a short story for me. I know how amazing she is and I drew a pictures to her story before. I will be researching and testing Procreate to find out more about the program and to learn new tricks which would help me with drawing process. I will olso researching and testing other online tools such a Flipsnack. That will help me to create online flip book .

I will experiment with all of these and create posts to show how I have tried and tested these before deciding on the software I will complete my project with.

Research for my major project

I will look deeply to find out about the digital illustrating. I will follow online tutorials to learn how to set up the right size of canvas in Procreate. I want that book to be avaible online and I want to print out the final version. I love learning from Bardot Brush and I will follow her this time .
