  • Ultimate Black. Create your pieces using the colour of night
On the last session Sam introduced three new themes for the main project. First I was impressed by Primitivism all the colours and opportunities which I could use by choosing this theme. I love Modigliani and one of my first painting was inspired by him, I think it was in 2001when I painted that
my first sketch

Amadeo Modigliani Female nude, 1916

My first thought was to create posters with people enjoying life, painted in a similar way in the colourful bright colours. the only different is that I wanted to add some modern object to the primitivism, for example mobile phones , laptops, cup of coffee from Costa and bag of Mc Donald's chips. I wanted to connect those two Worlds together : Primitivism and Modern that was my purpose.

However my heart also bits faster to the third theme BLACK. This is my favourite colour, I love the mysticism, power, strength , death , mystery and everything  what is connected to this colour. When Sam asked me why, my answers were straight: black is graphic, bold and clean. When I started thinking where I could use that colour I thought of simple graphic signs, something what we can often see on the airport. There is many international people who are not able to read in English but they could easily understand the meaning of the simple sign. Linked to this idea was to create logo for the imaginary or existed airlines.
This idea was "ok" but the next idea was even better. The branding for Tattoo Studio! Bold, graphic and BLACK!  I love tattoos since I was teenager. I am not going to post my first home made tattoo which we've made secretly at home with my brother. We used black ink, needle, string and matchstick to made them. I still got mine, but my brother tripped of the bike and lost his (luckily). I never asked for a cover of mine first tattoo because it has a story behind and I love it, same as the next ones.
When I was drawing and thinking of a colour black, my cat came. She is a black cat, her name is Luna. Maybe it is a good start?

Now I think it  is to magical for a tattoo studio. People always linked black cat with a black magic and with Witches.
Luna is also name of a Moon. But again, it is to magical....

Next I thought of flowers and nice symmetrical design

  1. The tattoo idea is really nice and has enough in it to sustain you over the time period of the project. It is also different enough from your Term 2 project that you can push yourself in another direction and develop your portfolio accordingly. Follow this up with research into other tattoo parlours, the styles and themes of other tattooists, the history of tattooing (there is a lot going back centuries) how are they used in a variety of cultures and so on.
