sequential photography

Eliot Erwitt Amagansett, New York 1990

Recently we were discussing sequential photography. Sequence photography is a technique were series of pictures were put together to shows the movement or tell the short story.
Elliott Erwitt and  his amazing photos and sense of humour inspired me the most.  This 93 years old American advertising and documentary photographer  is known for his black and white candid photos of ironic and absurd situations within everyday setting.
For the contrast I included a photos taken by Duane Michals, one of the greatest innovators of the las century; heavily influenced by photojournalism. His photo shooting series "Dead Comes to the Old Lady" are very sad, nostalgic and shows the passing time. Photos are black and white which makes them more interesting and we can focused on the main message which is dead. I like the fact that on some photos people are blurry. The Artist did not pay attention to details and also this way he shows movement and motions. The Old Lady sitting on the chair in her own house, she seems to be waiting for someone or something as her body is not relaxed. There is a figure of a man at the back approaching towards her. First off all I thought that is her husband, but then I noticed that he is not just ordinary person - he represents dead.  Maybe he is her husband who passed away long time ago, and now he came for her.

  1. You have made a start here on the research, but this needs more in-depth commentary and analysis. As you are working on a sequential photography piece, it would be good to discuss some of his sequential photography more in-depth. Consider what you can learn from he work and how you will use this to enhance your own images. Please remember that your research post should include a minimum of three sources.
