Patrick Caulfield - artist research

Patrick Caufield (1936-2005) English painter, studied at the Chelsea School of Art and at the Royal College of Art. Became popular in 1964 after "New Generation" exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, which was a beginning of British Pop Art. Caufield's used bold colours and thick, black outlines in his works, often painted interiors and familiar objects, rather than people or landscapes. Perhaps for this reason he was the best person to design the set and costumes for Party Game, a ballet by Michael Corder performed at the Royal Opera House in 1984 and in 1995 the set and costumes for the Royal Ballet’s new production of Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody.

Caufield usually painted with acrylic paint on canvas adding his characteristic black outline, however later on he has stopped painting bold outlines.

A simple description of the way I’ve worked is to say that having painted and drawn in a linear way, without shadow, I gradually abandoned the linear structure and began to rely much more on light and shade which is perhaps a more sculptural interpretation of my visual world”. Patrick Caulfield

Patrick Caufield, same as Andy Warhol used silkscreen printing technique. Chris Prater, printer and friend of Caufield worked together for many years.
His approach to image making and his bold and succinct visual style lent itself well to all kinds of multimedia projects: mosaics, murals, stained glass windows and tapestries. (Pallant House Gallery)

I am glad that Sam introduced me that artist. I love Patrick's Caulfield work, this is so me! I downloaded some on his pictures on my phone and I it is my new wallpaper.
His bold colours and black line strongly linked to my logo and most of my digital pictures.
