Reflection

 In week 2 tutor introduced three main themes for our Main Project.

Purple Haze. Use the colour purple as your theme, consider what it represents and how it can be incorporated into your art or design project.

Earthly Delights. Interpret this title as you please to represent, incorporate or express the nature of earthly delights in your art and design project.

Expressionism. Look deeply into expressionism and incorporate this style into your art and design project.

It seems like ages ago when I decided to choose Earthly delights theme for main project. Back then I had no idea what I would create , I only knew that would be something related to Nature. I started with drawing simple flowers, plants and botanical patterns which I wanted to use on the shoes, curtains and clothes. I thought about creating new shoe company, but I couldn't find any purpose and it was more for someone who's progression route is fashion or product design.

First exercise "Martians have landed" showed me that is not that simple and I have to dig deeply and be more inspired, however a short conversation with Tutor convinced me to do imaginary school and branding  , instead of  creating shoe company. I remember that day before I got the information from my son's school, saying that by the end of the year they would became Eco School and will receive the Eco Flag. My first step was to do research Eco Schools.

Development exercise and meditative approach were also very useful, while meditation  "the tree" came across my mind. I knew I would use it in my logo somehow. The picture which I drew was very colourful with many details on the background. I started sketching simple versions  and the "blind drawing" class exercise was my inspiration, therefore also the tree in the logo I drew by using only one continuous line. I experimented with background, fonts and colours, however the tree stays the same. My next idea was to create a four houses in school , corresponding to the four elements such as Fire, Water, Air and Earth and every element would be represent by different colour in the school logo. 

Later on I dropped the "houses" idea , however I kept the colours. I changed it after receiving constructive feedback from my friends. I did the short presentation for them where I explained what is my Main Project about and what I am planning to do next. It was very interesting to hear how others see my ideas and what changes I could consider. That gave me a new energy and I created new and last version of  the school logo, I drew simple, geometric  shapes on the background instead of using black frame and I changed the font for more soft. 

I used Procreate to create school leaflet, posters and I used pictures which I took in Aylestone Meadows. Finally I learned how to do mock-up in Photoshop which is my personal success. I mock up mugs, tote bags, water bottles , school uniforms, football shirt and sign post for the Eco Academy. 

That was very interesting journey and I am truly amazed how my ideas developed since week 2. To finish Main Project -The Eco Academy , I was inspired by famous artist William Morris, modern graffiti artist Philt , pop art artist Patrick Caulfield , my visit to the Eden Project many hours of sketching and conversations. I am happy with the results

Eco Academy Tote Bag mock up

 Finally I was bereave  enough to experiment with the Photoshop to create the tote bag for the school. I  started with the mock up picture which I found on the free mock up website, and I downloaded it on the laptop.  After transferring the picture to the Photoshop I used a clone tool to remove the design which was already there, however a few minutes after I have finished designing the bag I learned how to do it in completely different way. I knew I am doing something wrong as it took me to long .    I used the same free background logo which I created earlier in Procreate . I fit it to the tote bag size and I saved the picture in jpg, choosing "file" and " save as"  on the left top corner . I am happy with the results, the picture is sharp in a good quality.  In my project I will draw illustrations to a short story for children, therefore this research will help me to find information and answer to the big question: " What's make the great children book illustration? "  There is many factors what I need to consider before I will start drawing: - the age group.  - type an style of illustrations suitable for this age group - the book style - how many illustration I will include in my page. - what to avoid in the illustrations for children To decide in what style I will draw the pictures is also very important. Is that will be more cartoony or scary or is the pictures are relevant to the story. For example soft and gentle illustrations would not be perfect for a story about monsters. Go to the library an look at the real children's book is a good place to find the inspirations.  Is important to decide how many illustrations will be included in the book and what type of illustrations they are. project plan schedule

During the meeting with the Tutor ,we have discussed everything regarding to my project. I have introduced my ideas and my first sketches to the book. "The magic of the amulet" is a story written by my friend's daughter. There are three main characters - Abby the little girl who lives on the tropical Island with her friends: Olivia the dolphin and Patrick the crab. I already know how they will look like. I need to think how to draw the Island and mermaids. In my head it will be a magical and colorful,  fantasy World.  My first idea was to draw 4 pictures based on the story and to make front and back cover. The Tutor advice was to create two more pages as the story will be more interesting and easier to read for the children. We talk trough every page and I am convinced now that is good idea to draw two additional pages.
