Further research - Eden Project

My trip to the Eden Project last Summer is a big inspiration to the Earthly Delight theme and my major project. The diversity of plants and colours there is incredible!

what is Eden Project?

Eden Project is based in Cornwall. It used to be a huge crater after a former clay mine. Everything was transformed into a beautiful global garden. There are five massive covered Biomes. The main one is the Rainforest Biome with over 1000 varieties of plants where temperature is between 18-35C and you need about two hours to see everything! The second biome is Mediterranean Biome with Mediterranean climate where temperature is between 9-25C and gardens inside the biomes. There is many unique plants and trees, we saw how cotton, chilli pepper or aloe grows which was very interesting.

Inside the Mediterranean Biome I saw amazing sculptures The Rites of Dionysus made by Tim Shaw - visual artist and sculptor born in Belfast in 1964. Studied art at Manchester Polytechnic and Falmouth School of Art. He lives on farm in Cornwall were he has his studio. The main sculpture is Dionysus who was the Greek god of the vines. Around him dancing his followers playing on drums and trumpets. Tim Shaw's work are perfect to explore more regarding to our sculpture project.

  1. Interesting post, but if these are not your images, you must include citations for them. I'd like to hear you talk about how this experience has helped to develop your idea for your project - the Eden Project is effectively a learning zone for children and adults, therefore there is a link to be made there. How does the Eden project sell itself? As a Graphic Designer, I expect you to include here (or in another post) some examples of its various advertising campaigns and how these could be an influence on your project. How do they do educational campaigns? What kind of language do they use? how are they visually? How effective are they? Dig deeper than this post, although this is a satisfactory introduction to this particular piece of research.
