project initial research

In my main project I would create imaginary, secondary school and design the school logo, school uniforms and so on. The main theme for the school is to be an Eco School which linked to the Earthly Delight theme. I researched the Eco Schools in UK to find out about how are they promote themselves, how to became eco school and what colour palette they are using on their website or how their logo looks like.

On this website www.eco-schools.org.uk I found the  information about the ten topics they are focusing on, such us: energy, global citizenship, biodiversity, healthy living and so on. There is also  7 steps to follow by schools that wanted to became eco and achieve the green flag for school. That gives me information what I could use in my project while creating posters and accessories.

I looked for artist that paint plants and flowers. Beautiful work of  Laura Garcia Serventi Argentinian painter and illustrator has caught my eye.

I love her botanical pictures and the way how she filled up the canvas. And also the black background is something what I would like to use in my project.

However the biggest inspiration for me is French painter Henri Rousseau. He painted beautiful fantasy scenes and lots of jungle landscapes, wild animals and exotic figures. In his paintings, he is focused on details and used different shades of green. It is very interesting how he hidden objects or animals behind the plants, which we can easily missed  if we don't linger over it. Accumulation of details, patterns and colours is fascinating.

Henri Rousseau "The Dream" 1910

Henri Rousseau painted "The Dream" his best known and most iconic painting in 1910. This is a great example where we can see lots of small hidden elements. We can see lions and a person playing on the flute behind them, however, the figure of the elephant surprised me the most. It is so well hidden. Rousseau tries to hide the details as much as possible. Some of the colours that he used are very fantasy-like, possibly not exist in the jungle. The sofa placed in the middle of the jungle is also magical and build the atmosphere.
