Who am I?
who am I? |
Today I asked myself Who am I? The shadow behind my figure represents my twin brother. I like to be a twin, it is unusual and definitely something what represents me. My twin brother Piotr is 5min younger then me and I have always called him a "baby". I also have 5 years older sister, named Edyta. Both of them lives in Poland. Surprisingly I am much closer with my sister, than my twin brother. That is why I wrote word "Sister" in capital letters on my arm. Me an my brother are complete opposites. He has no clue about art and he doesn't like watching movies or reading books. He loves hunting and expensive cars, when I love every single animal and I do not really pain attention what car I am driving on. I graduated from the art school and he finished secondary school of economic. Word "twin" is written multiple times on my shadow but is also shaded, to show that he does exist in my life but is hidden in shade. Inside my body I draw a figure of a boy from my favourite cartoon called "Zaczarowany olowek" (the magical pencil) I remember watching this cartoon as a child and my biggest dream was to find that magic pencil. Basically whatever that boy drew it became alive. I truly believed that this magic pencil does exist and I kept practising my drawing to be able to draw really beautiful things for my friend and family. Above in a big, red heart where I wrote names of my son Patrick and my husband David who are everything to me. There is also a broken heart which represents my Dad. Sadly he passed away a few years ago but it is still very difficult for me. I couldn't even explain to Patrycja what happened. I was about to cry but I stopped myself.
On the left leg are my "teenager" life where I was strongly connect with the Punk subculture. Music and friends were very important in my life. We went to the concerts (gigs) regularly. That time school was not the most important part of my life. I needed years to understand that, therefore I am on university in my age.
On the right leg, I draw my great-granny, she has massive impact in my life. She was always there for me and I loved listening her stories about the Second World War. She was born in 1914 and she remembered everything. She lived with us. There are also figures of my parents. I draw them that way for a reason. They were there, unfortunately "mentally" far away from each other. We lived together as a family but they were not a good marriage. Probably that is why I proffered to spend time with my friends.
On the bottom left corner I drew my family house and my friends. There were always loads of them around me and my siblings. I grow up in a big house with a big garden which was amazing. And we always have many pets to play with. Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and so on.
On the bottom right I drew city view with the massive chimneys. That was the place were I went to secondary school. The city is called Plock and is famous from petrol production. I still remember that smell. I enjoyed my time in the secondary school, however at the same time I skipped the lessons regularly. Attendance in polish education is not that important, so I avoided consequences. I remember trips to the museums and different cities. My secondary school was situated near the Zoo and every Wednesday we walked there with the fine art teacher to draw animals.
Above is a plane and two flags. Which is a symbol of my life abroad. I travelled by plane so many times, it became so obvious for me, like a trip by bus.
This is very good - you have dug really deeply into your background, upbringing and what has made you up to today. This is exactly the approach you should use when working on Artist/Designer research, looking at the motivation behind the work, how it was made, why it was created and the impact it has. Well done.
