Skills week - life drawing session

Maybe it sounds little bit silly and naïve but it was my best day ever! I started day with making my very first mug on ceramic workshop ( which I love and enjoyed so much ) then straight after I went to the life drawing session. I was super excited and I was dancing inside me thinking of my friends who are working now, while I am getting ready for drawing nudes.
We started with the warming up exercises by drawing a few quick sketches. That was very helpful as I my last life drawing session was many , many years ago. What I remembered from that lessons is when the teacher told me to , do not start with drawing head. I focused on different body parts and I tried to see them as a geometric figures. This is something I remember from the first term with Sam.

This time the task was to draw with continuous line. I started with his arm, elbow then hand ,line of fabric, whiteout thinking of his body proportions. For example, I looked where his knee is situated and what is on the same line, how big is his head related to arms and to the back of the chaise lounge.

For the main, long, 30 min drawing we got different model. This time was a woman and I need time again to used to to her body proportions and the pose. Luckily I have moved the easel on the other side of the room, the model was font of me with the perfect position, without any difficult shortcuts. I started drawing with the very soft 8B pencil, first gently with a very light lines to find the best composition on the paper. Later on I realised that I should move her little bit more to the right as I couldn't fit her boots properly on the paper. I used continuous line to draw the chaise lounge and the fabrics and I focused on her body and shading. Only if I would have a more time I would be able to draw details, and focus more on shading, however I am happy with the results. I got positive feedback from my friends and the model herself.

  1. Both your short, warm up drawings and the longer poses demonstrate how well you did in these sessions, the figures are believable, the structure and proportion too. Use the video I gave you in the third session of Week 5 to carry this on and post the results on your blog.
